Antarctic Event Series

Antarctica is pivotal to the global climate system. ​This Event Series, hosted by the Environmental Hub, will explore key themes of environmental protection, wildlife and climate change in Antarctica. The Series, delivered by experts working in Antarctica, will include Discover Antarctica Short Course and Antarctic Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Short Course.

Held over three days, this Event Series will comprise the following events:

Tuesday 10th June 2025 6.30pm-9pm - Evening Reception Launch Event

Wednesday 10th September 2025 9.30am-1.30pm - Discover Antarctica Short Course (Online)

Thursday 11th September 2025 9.30am-1.30pm -Antarctic EIA Short Course - Cumulative Impact Assessment (Online)

Evening Reception Launch Event (Tuesday 10th June 2025, 6.30pm-9pm)

Join us for the launch of the Antarctic Event Series.

This evening reception will launch the Antarctic Event Series, the inaugural event for the Environmental Hub. The event will bring together the Antarctic and wider environmental community, including the friends of the Environmental Hub and attendees of the short courses. There will be an audio visual element with short videos of Antarctica. It will be accompanied by an art and photography exhibition about Antarctica. Welcome drinks and canapes will be served.

This event will be held at the Environmental Hub in London W1W 6AN.


Discover Antarctica Short Course (Wednesday 10th September 2025, 9.30am-1.30pm)

£100 online attendance (prices exclude VAT)

A rare opportunity to gain an understanding or enhance your knowledge about the Antarctic environment, delivered by experts in their field.

Discover Antarctica Short Course is designed for those wishing to gain an understanding or enhance their knowledge about environmental protection, wildlife and climate change in Antarctica with up to date and current information. It is open to all and does not require any prior qualifications or Antarctic experience.

The course is in the process of achieving endorsement by the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES).

  • Environmental protection in Antarctica and the Antarctic Treaty

  • Wildlife in Antarctica and the Threats it Faces

Antarctic EIA Short Course - Cumulative Impact Assessment (Thursday 11th September 2025, 9.30am-1.30pm)

£200 online attendance (prices exclude VAT)

Antarctic EIA Short Course - Cumulative Impact Assessment provides a one day training course for those wishing to enhance their knowledge of the EIA process and methodology with best practice, case studies and up to date information, with a focus on cumulative impact assessment.  

The course is for those with a professional interest in Environmental Impact Assessment in Antarctica. The course is in the process of achieving endorsement by the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES).

Course content

  • Cumulative Impact Assessment Best Practices

  • Environmental Assessment Methodology and Guidelines

  • EIA screening process (PEE, IEE)

  • Certificate of Achievement
